One of South Australia’s most highly regarded natural wine producers. Jauma is a family business founded in 2010 by ex-hospitality professional and 2008 Australian Gourmet Traveller Sommelier of the year, James Erskine. Jauma continues it’s decade long relationship with McLaren Vale vineyard consultants Fiona Wood and Dave Gartelman who manage the organic vineyards from where they take the majority of their fruit. James also purchased an organic cherry farm in the Adelaide Hills in 2018 and has since started planting their own vineyards with varietals such as Chenin Blanc, Savagnin, Cabernet Franc Gewürztraminer and Gamay which they will make wine from in the years to come. Inside the winery, Jauma produces wines from grapes, nothing more. There are no additions of anything — no sulfur, yeasts, acids, tannins, chemicals, preservatives, filtration, polymers, colours, nor any fish, egg or plastic settling agents. This creates pure and living wines, uninhibited in their portrayal of fruit, terroir, and character. Jauma wines are famous around the world for their stability, brightness, integrity, purity, fun and fullness of flavour.
Mimsy is a new cuvee from James and is made of 100% Chenin Blanc from Blewitt Springs, farmed organically by Lulu Lunn. The vineyard is 25 years old, east facing and grown in deep white sand on clay at 120m elevation above sea level. The grapes are destemmed, fermented for 2 days on skins, then pressed to tank over winter and bottled with 4g/L residual sugar which continues to ferment in bottle and create its fine carbonation. It’s fresh and bright with a lovely textural mouthfeel. Melon, citrus. and fresh cut apple with a lovely light spritz.
