Tonic came about as a treatment for malaria by the British soldiers in the early 1800’s. As it was insanely bitter, sugar and soda were added to make it more palatable. Being the clever bunch they are, gin was added to create the first g & t.
Quinine gives tonic water its bitterness. This bitterness is derived from cinchona bark (our only imported ingredient) of the cinchona tree. Raw sugar softens the quinine and citric acid and fresh lemon and lime bring balance and vibrancy. The nose pops from native lemon myrtle. 200ml Bottle – Agent 80
