One of the newest editions to the Ochota Barrels portfolio, Where’s the Pope? Syrah is in it’s fourth vintage. Introduced to showcase the lighter, prettier side of McLaren Vale Syrah. This comes from younger vines planted in 1996 on the Green Room Grenache vineyard on schist and clay soils.
Pressed straight to seasoned French oak and left to rest for 5 months, fermented using indigenous yeast and lightly foot stomped. Prettiness is not a character you would typically use to describe Shiraz from this region. While the 2024 vintage is more serious and full bodied than the last 3 years it’s still vivid and fresh.
