Lucy M wines are some of the most sought after Australian natural wines both in Australia and overseas. The wines are made by Anton Von Klopper (aka The Wildman) on the Lucy Margaux Farm in Basket Range, South Australia. Anton is one of the pioneers of natural wine in Australia and someone we’ve had the pleasure of working with for many many years. He might be known as The Wildman but he’s also a genuinely nice bloke and a legend of the industry. The wines change every year, but one thing is constant: No additions, just grapes.
Pet Nat made from 100% Pinot Gris from Robert Surmann’s vineyard in Totness with 30-year-old vines grown on black sandy soil overlying petrified schist. The grapes are destemmed and left to rest for four days, allowing the juice to soak up the flavour, colour and a little tannin from the skins. It is then pressed into 680-litre ceramic eggs and ferments for two weeks until there is the perfect amount of sugar to finish in bottle with a good level of spritz. It is then aged on lees in bottle for five months before disgorgement. Pours a very pale pink with a lovely fine fizz. Red apple & dried herbs on the nose. Refreshing zippy acidity, white strawberries, sharp raspberries. Super clean & elegant. Top notch stuff from Anton here!
