This is the second year we have made this wine from the Kas Sluiter vineyard in Mylor. The Sluiter vineyard is .75Ha of Syrah with 3 different clones 1164, 1127 and 1125. The soil is sand over light clay. The site is cool under the shadow of a large hill and ripening tends towards the end of April. When we were tasting the fruit for this harvest, we all agreed it was the tastiest fruit off the vine of all the vineyards and we are very excited to be working with these vines! The fruit for 2021 was harvested on the 3rd of April.
The fruit was sorted and chilled overnight before destemming. Fermentation took place on skins for 12 days before pressing. The wine was run to fibreglass tank and elevage was for 10 months on fine lees.
The wine is soft and distinctly Syrah with powerful violets and blueberries. The fruit is grounded thought by the early tannins and acidy. The wine is light but has depth – very drinkable. – Commune of Buttons
