Geode is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (1/3) and Maréchal Foch (2/3), aged in clay amphora for 3 months.
Maréchal Foch is a high acid red, so we wanted to see how our limestone rich clay might reduce that acidity over time. The decision to add Sauvignon Blanc was inspired by the winemakers of Northern Rhone, and their Syrah which usually has some Viognier blended in for body.
What’s it like? The acid is still bright and fresh, but balanced well by the clay and body from our Sauvignon Blanc. The guava/tropical white lifts the blueberry notes of the red, making the fruit really pop. There is a touch of funk from our native microflora, in all the best ways. – Ibi
