Gruner Veltliner is a widely planted variety in Austria and is well suited to the Adelaide hills climate. I wanted to make a Gruner that shows what the region can do for the style. This one is sourced from the Longview vineyard at Macclesfield. A mild, dry vintage allowed us to pick at the optimum time and the grapes were wild fermented in French Oak barrels. The wine spent the next 4 months on lees before being bottled. The resultant wine exhibits great minerality, length and spice with a delicious kick of butterscotch. It is a wine that is made to drink now and is a balanced drink that will suit the Australian climate. (Producer’s notes)
