Walsh Whiskey’s Writers’ Tears is a critically acclaimed, award-winning recreation of the 19th & 20th century whiskeys that many literary greats enjoyed in the local public houses of the time.

The Irish whiskey barons were rebelling against the emergence of what they saw as inferior grain from Coffey Stills. The barons were protective of the traditions that had made their success possible and at that time, one whiskey style was held high above all others. Known as the ‘champagne of Irish whiskey’ it was a master blend of pot still and malt whiskeys, both distilled in copper pots. It was enjoyed by many for its full-bodied, flavoursome taste and creamy texture! It was said that the writers of the times enjoyed it so much, that when they cried, their tears were of whiskey.

Writer’s Tears released the Marsala Cask finished whiskey in early 2019. The natural sweetness has been balanced out with a 5% stronger alcohol content. Just under 2500 bottles were filled after twelve months finishing in hogsheads.

Rich aromas of golden syrup and orchard fruits and lingering flavours of caramelised apple, nutty spices and wildflower honey.
