Known mostly as simply Delirium, actually brewed under brewery Huyghe at Appelhoek in Melle, Belgium. The earliest evidence of brewing at this site dates as far back as 1654, with Léon Huyghe coming on board in 1904, and being joined by his son in 1925. It is still in the Huyghe family, under careful custodianship by the fourth generation.
The Delirium Nocturnum is a strong dark beer, triple fermented using 3 different yeast strains and 5 different malts. Given it’s 8.5% abv it’s an extremely well balanced ale. A sweet chocolate and coffee nose with some subtle spices such as liquorice and corriander. Roasted malt, alcohol and chocolate are the main tasting notes up front developing into a strong hoppy bitterness.
