Georgians have been making wine for longer than anyone on Earth with evidence of winemaking dating back approximately 8,000 years. Due to the many millennia of wine in Georgian history and its prominent economic role, the traditions of wine are considered entwined with and inseparable from their national identity.

DoReMi began when two wine loving friends; Mamuka & Giorgi decided to start making organic wine together in 2014. Although not coming from technical winemaking backgrounds, both friends were ‘home’ winemakers but their mission became the goal of creating the finest organic wines using ancient Georgian techniques. The vineyards are mostly scattered throughout Kakheti in Eastern Georgia plus Kartli in Central Georgia. In Kakheti they source Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane Kakhuri from the village of Ojio in the Akhmeta region. The vines are 15-20 years old located 500m above sea level and the soil is light brown clay and stoney limestone. The marani (cellar) is located in the village of Gamarjveba which is on the border of Tbilisi & Lower Kartli. There are 12 kvevri buried here which are between 1000L and 1700L. Doremi is quickly outgrowing their current home and have sights on the village of Akhmeta in Kakheti where there are plans afoot to create a much larger marani.

All their wines are fermented on skins and aged in Kvevris (large amphora buried in the ground). Wines are made with wild yeast and free from any additives. The 2020 Mtsvane Kakhuri is fairly clear but super bright orange in colour. Big stone fruit aromas, particularly apricot. Some floral blossom notes as well and a hint of jasmine tea. Juicy ripe apricot dominates the palate with some subtle bitter herbs, lovely texture and a fine dry tannic finish.
