Founded in 2010, Heaps Good Wine Company is a small family owned winery situated in Ritoznoj in the foothills of the Pohorje range in Stajerska Slovenija. New Zealand expat Nick Gee worked all over the world making wines and gaining experience – having completed 25 harvests in his time, across 4 different countries, and with over 20 different grape varieties –  before settling in Stajerska.

Nick works with both international and local varieties, using minimal intervention and adds, to produce wines that express the individuality of their vineyard sites. The cool climate of Stajerska allows Nick to make wines of balance, purity, restraint and elegance.

100% Pinot Noir from vineyards 360 metres above sea level, planted in marl rich soils with sand and clay. Fruit is hand picked and wild fermented, with 10 – 20% of it undergoing whole bunch, cold maceration for 3 – 8 days. Plunged daily, sometimes twice during peak period, with 17 – 23 days on skins in total.  Aged 12 months in old French barrels.

Brick/light colour.  Reductive and earthy, reminiscent in some ways of Gippsland and Martinborough Pinot Noirs, unsurprisingly as Nick spend time in both these regions. Structurally light, textured, cherry and plum fruits, with the tannins and finishing flavours evoking black tea.
