This is unbelievably brilliant sparkling red wine.
The 2016 Explosive Materials Red is another jewel from l’egrappille, without doubt one of my favourite wineries on Earth.
In 2016 this cuvee came from a single vineyard just outside the village of Renom which itself is a little to the north of Cleremont-Ferrand in the Auvergne.
The grape variety here is called gamay d’Auvergne and it’s typically much more spicy and with a richer more forest-y fruit profile than gamay from Beaujolais.
The 2016 Explosive Materials Red is simply breathtaking work of art – we can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s complex, fresh, taught and exceptionally delicious.
