Friulano – a revered variety of the Friuli or Collio region on the Adriatic Sea especially as a skin contact white wine. Quealy pioneered the variety in Australia, planting on their property in 2004.
The crop is essentially reduced to 1,000 litres per acre, by the intensive selection of the inflorescence in October. The small crop concentrates acidity and flavour. Destemmed and fermented as whole berries until the juice is released from the skin when it is drained into amphorae to finish. Stirred on lees whilst a cold malolactic fermentation proceeds and then allowed to settle with time before bottling in July 2016. (Producer’s notes)
