Friends Pablo Solis and Ronaldo Vera are 2 young friends born into traditional farming and winemaking in Guarilihue, Itata. Their fathers saw the boom and then bust of the Chilean wine market. The shamefully low price of grapes sees them still making and selling bulk wine, but the lack of a rural labour force and low price of bulk wine obliged their fathers to rely on chemical fertilisers. These two are among the scant few of the next generation to stay on the farm. They work for their fathers but have bravely embarked on the rebellious project of converting parcels of fruit back to organics and bottling their own wines. They are the first generation in their respective families to put wine to bottle. These small batch wines, to which the boys each contribute grapes, are made naturally and traditionally. With the only additives being very small amounts of sulphur. Both fathers are somewhere between highly sceptical, sometimes critical but also hopeful. Using traditional techniques, intuition, and naturally keen palates, they make wines of incredible poise and depth with serious acid lines.

Corinto is the local name for the grape more commonly known as Chasselas which was brought over to Chile in the 1930s. Chasselas is thought to be of Egyptian origin but is most commonly associated with French-speaking Switzerland, where it is widely planted.

The ‘Oro Blanco’ was left on skins for 25 days in stainless steel before being pressed to only two old barriques and then bottled after 6 months. Only a tiny 11ppm of sulphur was added after malo.

This is the first time Corinto from Pablo’s family vineyard has ever been fermented individually. Pablo even went to the trouble of picking each of the randomly dispersed vines separately and picked them very early to retain their natural acidity. The result is a juicy, luscious and lively wine with great texture and notes of white peach, yellow apple and lemon sorbet with a hint of fresh peppermint. An incredible story and an incredibly delicious wine!
