Two serious Great Southern sites combine to produce the Pet Nat frivolity that is Spunk Nat. Frankland River riesling and Mount Barker shiraz drained off after a couple of days skin contact; all wild ferment. The wines are racked together at just the right moment then sent to bottle without fining, filtration or any additions – the fizz produced by the last gasp of fermentation stays in the bottle giving vibrancy and froth to this spunky little blend. The 2020 release was shaken down and disgorged by hand into an old wheelbarrow – fine sediment and a few natural tartrate crystals may remain.
Bright, lifted aromas, with all the freshness of early spring strawberries and wildflowers. There’s a subtle citrus/herbal twist in there as well. The palate is refreshing and textural, with line and length provided by the natural riesling acidity.
