This year’s red is fresher, more youthful offering, with vibrant fruit flavour, bright acid and ripe yet gentle tannin that looks equally at home in an esky as it does next to a plate of spaghetti. In 2020 we sourced cabernet sauvignon from the old Bress vineyard, grown on granite in the Harcourt valley 8kms from the winery, along with Nero D’Avola from on top o the hill at Chalmers Heathcote vineyard. Both parcels were picked at full ripeness, which came with a perfect acid balance this year so a great opportunity to make something fresh and energetic.

The cabernet was destemmed and fermented semi-carbonically over 12 days, whilst the Nero was destemmed and fermented in an open vessel for a similar duration. Both were pressed and settled before moving to Hogsheads for maturation over winter. Mid-spring we racked and blended and made the call to bottle early to grab hold of that fruit/tannin and keep in lively.

This is very much any day of the week red….primary enough to be hoovered, but just enough tannin and fruit weight to warm a lonely heart. – Boomtown
