Friends Dato and Gogita, are the names behind Lurji Bani, winemakers that are being looked to as beacons of modern Georgian winemaking. Located in Telavi, Kakheti, their winery features an 18th-century marani (qvevri) and a vineyard that’s been organic for 18 years.
The 2022 Lurji Bani Rkatsiteli is a unique, lighter take on a native Georgian amber wine. Fermented in stainless steel (rather than qvevri as is tradition), with 2 weeks on lees, it’s juicy and vibrant. Pouring a beautiful light amber, it has plenty of fresh fruits and a subtle savoury nuttiness.
