Brothers Koerner is the fun & very approachable side project from the Koerners, showcasing fruit from two regions, the Clare Valley, and the Adelaide Hills. Both areas are climatically unique and produce distinctly different wines. However, their aim is to make them in a similar way, picking fruit early and taking a minimal intervention approach to the winemaking. Their focus is on classic varieties, with the Brothers Koerner project giving them a platform to continue experimenting with their winemaking across both regions. Ultimately their aim is to make really good wine that appeals to all palates.
The 2021 ‘Light Red’ is made from fruit from the Kuitpo & Macclesfield vineyards in Southern Adelaide Hills. The Pinot Noir was destemmed retaining 50% whole berries with no whole bunch. Naturally fermented in open top steel fermenters, hand plunged twice daily and left on skins for 1 week. The Pinot Gris was also destemmed, then cold soaked on skins for 2 days before pressing to foudre for ferment. Both were settled off gross lees for 7 days before blending.
Aromas of ripe red berries with a subtle confectionary element. Incredibly bright and fresh on the palate with excellent acidity, some lightly creamy texture and those lovely ripe red fruits coming through. Perfect with a little chill and just waaaay too easy drinking… oops it’s all gone!
