80% Malbec, 15% Merlot with a touch of Tannat makes the blend of this superb Cahors. The 60 hectares have south-west exposure and on the gentle slopes leading away from the river which contains alluvial clay, offering up red fruit notes and softer tannins than the higher plateau sites. Fermented in tank per parcel then are blended in January for the final cuvee. Transferred to new and seasoned oak barrels and foudre for one year elevage.

This Domaine is one of the oldest in Cahors with records back before the French revolution. Philippe Bernede is the 6th generation of his family to make the wine here. Cahors is having somewhat of a renaissance in the last 10 years as people re-discover this fantastic gastronomic region. Famous of duck and some of the best truffles in France.

The Clos Le Coutale spans over 60 hectares of of predominantly south-west facing vines situated around the river Lot. These vineyards are made up of 80% Malbec or COT as it is known in the region, planted on a mix of gravel and silicates & limestone clay with an average vine age of 25 years. – Supplier’s Notes
