in 1993, whilst visiting the volcanic island of Pantelleria (100km south west of Sicily), successful Milan based architect Gabrio Bini discovered what would become Azienda Agricola Serragghia. After purchasing the land the included 80 year old vines, he established his estate in the most uncompromising way he could in 2000.
The property was converted to organic then biodynamic principles, with all vineyard practices performed by hand & horse. He made the bold decision to vinify in clay amphorae – some of which are over 400 years old, buried outside in the same soils the fruit comes from, with all the wine spending time macerating on skins. The wines are completely unfined & unfiltered, and have no sulphites added at any point. (Producer’s notes)
